Since we moved into our townhome 2 years ago, organizing the pantry has been on my to-do list.  But after having my daughter, I just kept putting it off.  Well, it quickly got bumped back to the top of the list when we found out we had pantry pests.  Yes, that is really a thing and that is what they are called.  Initially, I thought we had ants in the pantry.  We called our local pest control and during their visit they informed us our tiny problem was actually pantry pests.  Pantry pests apparently love to burrow in flour, cereal, and other boxed food.  It was then that the project How To Organize Your Pantry went into full effect.

The first thing I did was look to Pinterest for inspo (check out my organization board).  I wanted to get an idea of the aesthetic I was going for before I started purchasing containers.  Next, I headed to Amazon to purchase containers and labels of the vibe I found on Pinterest.  While I waited for my containers to arrive, I looked on YouTube to see if I could come up with a strategy. You can check out my video on How To Organize Your Pantry or scroll to the bottom of this post.

Once the containers arrived, I got to work.  I must admit, I was a little overwhelmed at first.  What helped me was putting the empty containers in the pantry and putting the food item in front of it that I was thinking of putting in that specific container.  That way I could play around with it without actually pouring the food content in the container.  After I had that figured out, I ran into a problem with the containers not being large enough.  For example, the flour didn’t all fit into the glass storage jar.  What I did was order another bread box, put a label on it that said “Extras”, and stored any leftover flour, sugar, rice, etc.

After everything was in containers and baskets, I arranged them on the pantry shelves by mixing high and low, narrow and wide, plastic and glass.  Once arranged in the way I wanted it, I put labels on all of the containers.  I found these super cute labels on Amazon.  They literally came with every food item and spice you can think of.  And voila, my pantry goals were complete!
